No-Self, No-Mind

Didn't get to mess with my rings today but had an amazing training anyway.

Started off like any other, we did laps of balance, Devin and I counted our falls and did Up and Downs (Dyno and Lacher), think we did around 70, then we worked drop rail precisions, with a gradually increasing drop. We did 3 between each space on the bars, there were around 9 spaces, lowest being around 2-3 feet lower, all of them being around 4 feet in distance. On the last one I suggested we make it only count if we did 3 in a row. Devin gets to there before I do, starts being self deprecating announcing that we will be here all night because he "knows" he will keep choking once he gets to the third. He ends up doing around 10 precisions, not in a row in the last spot before I catch up. I stick the first one, miss the second, then I feel it for a second, that feeling where my body and mind just kind of clicked, stuck the 3. The thing I read about in all my Samurai philosophy books, what we all strive for where "Disciplined training internalizes the practice to the point that it becomes completely natural and can be executed with no interferences from the mind" was just able to not think about how it feels, but just feel and finish. Devin did 22 precisions before he listened and got a glimpse of it, listened and stopped thinking about how it felt to do it right and just felt it. Rest of it was good as well. Repetitions of level cats and ones with varying hand/foot placement. Kept getting glimpses of that utter trust in oneself where you just go, felt great, and even though Devin thinks he had a horrible training for that brief second he felt it too, was a great lesson for him today and I am glad to say I think I may be beginning to understand what I've been reading for the past 5 years of my life.

Also got my first rip in about a year ;)

Interesting New Events

Well some interesting things happened with me in the past couple days, kinda weird, not sure whats going to happen with it either.

First things first, had a pretty interesting training on monday, started off kind of frustratingly since I couldn't balance at all and ended up doing a lot of reward exercises for my falls. Then worked a lot on just stuff I've been afraid of, Pop ons from a Cat position, tried to get rid of a bad front tuck habit I had (looking to the side during), one leg fronts and sides. Also did some precision one foot landings straight into side summi's and fronts which was a ton of fun and also dive rolls through stuff, was pretty eventful, a nice chill day where I learned a bit and worked on some mental blocks.

Had lunch with a good friend of mine before training who randomly said she was trying to set me up with one of her friends. Never had that happen before, and kind of caught me off guard. Later after training I kind of more formally met her and she ended up coming over and we talked a lot about her current situation. Was pretty interesting and definitely not something I'm used to. But I enjoyed myself and she seems really cool, not sure what to expect out of it though as she's in quite a weird situation with her previous/current relationship thing, it'd take too much to explain and I don't really want to go into details as to save anonymity and all that. So I basically don't know what, if anything will happen with that, so I'm not going to try not to worry about it too much, just focus on my training, be there for her if/when she needs it, and let her figure out things for herself.

Yesterday Did Errands forever, drove around for like 5 hours total that day, was horrible but I got some things done and I guess I needed a rest day anyway, today though after helping out with the site a bit I'm going to own my abs hopefully, probably do some ring work as well :)

Peace

Houston or Bust

Just got back from a weekend trip to Houston. It had a nice mix of good and bad but overall I really was glad to have made it.

The Bad
-Matthew's Car sucks horribly and basically barely allowed us to get back home
-The Guys that were filming us had no respect for the discipline and while not douche bags by any means I'd say just weren't very professional and didn't even begin to understand Parkour, it was just an upsetting shoot, dumb. :/
-Not sure of My max precision at times....not good also hesitating too much on things I know I can do.
-Found out the Woodlands is an Hour away from Houston, so we didn't get to train with them, feel a bit bad about it after hearing a message from Anne :/
The Good
-Got to train with the houston guys for the first time in 2 years, was great to catch up with Alex and Chris as well as meeting Shay and Kevin. Hopefully Chris will be heading here soon hopefully to come train with us so that should be tight.
-Overcame a good deal of mental blocks on the first day and also got to work a dive roll through an object and got it solid 3 times in a row which I'm glad about
-Had Great Vietnamese food and Some Awesome Gelato. Which is always a great thing and adds to a trips awesomeness haha.

Overall I had a great time and training with the houston guys, the "shoot" if you can call it that just hindered it for me the second day. Hope to train with them and see them more though.

Peace

Recent Training focuses

Doing lots of route repetition stuff, working as many awkward and scary things as I can, just trying to break those barriers now, doing some decent conditioning stuff as well, my triceps are killing me right now haha thanks diving monkeys. The heat is beastly here, forgot how bad it was but thankfully there is dusk/night training always available. trying to get more flexible , tough on your own though :/

Project Whitewash, May 31st

On the 31st of May, 5 people from the San Antonio area of Texas Parkour went downtown to clean up some of the various areas at which we train. With such a small turn out we didn't get as much done as we had originally intended but we definitely made a dent and hope to work with parks and rec on furthering this.

The day started a little later than originally planned due to direction errors and some postponing of the times. We got started near the federal courthouse around noon where years of tacs and cats had blackened a good portion of the walls. It was definitely a lot more difficult than we expected and after about an hour we had cleaned only about a 5 feet high by 6 wide foot section of the wall. we continued cleaning for a bit more after that, when Mike and I decided to head over to a local dollar store to try and by more supplies as plain rags weren't enough to clean the dirty walls. While we were gone a hidden wall we didn't see originally, in the covered section, got cleaned by the rest of the crew and on our return we decided to tackle the biggest part of the wall, probably 5 feet high and about 15 feet wide. With such a small group though we only made a small dent in the cleaning of the wall, the years of being subjected to nature and our foot steps were definitely more to clean than we thought and we didn't have the manpower to get as much done as we would have liked.

From there we garnered our losses and continued on to the Wooden playground of Hemisfair park where we picked up trash for about 2 hours, focusing mostly on the perimeter of the park. All in all it was a good experience and if anything else it helped clean up our park a little bit. I recently got in contact with Parks and rec so hopefully more thorough operations like this can continue!
